How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their
scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof behold,
I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you (Proverbs 1:22-23).
Immediately you’re born again, one of the things that happen in your spirit is the deep-seated hunger for the Word of God. You find yourself passionately craving for God’s Word the same way new born babies desire milk. There’s the insatiable desire to know more about this Savior that saved you and gave you eternal life. You’ll find yourself always taking advantage of every opportunity to hear the Word of God, not wanting to miss out on anything. It’s important that as you grow in Christ you don’t let that initial hunger and passion for God’s Word and the things of the spirit wane in your life. Never find yourself in a situation where the Word of God becomes common to you. In the opening scripture, God rebuked the scorners—those who treat the Word lightly, referring to them as fools. The scriptural characteristic that differentiates a wise man from a foolish man is that when a wise man hears God’s Word, he increases learning (Proverbs 1:5), but a foolish man despises wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).
As a Christian, you must have an insatiable hunger for the Word of God, for that’s the food for your spirit. No wonder Job said “I have esteemed God’s Word more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12). This should be your attitude to the Word. The Bible says “let the words of Christ dwell in you richly” (Colossians 3:16)
