Wherefore the rather brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall (2 Peter 1:10).
Many live their lives without ever knowing their reason for being. There's no life more frustrating than one lived without purpose. As Christians, we have a responsibility in Christ, and we must be consistently conscious of that responsibility. We’re the ones to influence those in our spheres of contact and win our world to Christ. That's our purpose and reason for being. The Bible says “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19). This is God’s purpose for our lives. He has committed to us the ministry of reconciliation. Thus the reason we live is for the salvation of the souls of men.
Jesus knew His reason for coming. He declared in John 10:10, “...I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” He was so clear about His purpose, and He didn't just articulate it; He also lived it. When God called Moses and said to him, “...l will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out” (Exodus 3:10), Moses understood this as his reason for being. His purpose was clear to him and he went about it fervently and thus became the deliverer of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. Understand your purpose in life and stay focused on it. The Lord Jesus declared: “...My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” Real fulfillment comes when you discover and live in God's purpose for your life.
